Director Catherine Hardwicke officially stepped away from the Twilight saga in early November, leaving teen vamp-fanatics everywhere clutching their Hot Topic hoodies in despair. The real reason behind her exit is still under wraps, but let’s be honest — it probably had something to do with the studio not throwing enough money her way after she delivered a movie that made hundreds of millions.
Before she was directing brooding bloodsuckers, Hardwicke was a production designer on films like The Newton Boys, Three Kings and Tank Girl (shoutout to the iconic Lori Petty of Point Break fame). She made her directorial debut with Thirteen, a raw and uncomfortable take on suburban teenage rebellion, and followed it up with Lords of Dogtown, a gritty and stylish tribute to the OG skate legends.
Now, fresh off the Twilight box-office juggernaut, Hardwicke is giving fans a peek behind the curtain with Twilight: The Director’s Notebook. This glossy, notebook-style book includes everything from costume design sketches to location notes and yes, more Rob Pattinson photos than your adolescent heart can handle.
The Twilight hype train is full steam ahead toward the March 21 DVD release (also available on Blu-ray for roughly the price of a small country). Whether you loved the movie or just love hating it, you can’t deny the franchise is printing money faster than the U.S. Mint.
