Hitting theaters this Friday is Duplicity, a sleek and smirky corporate spy caper starring Clive Owen and Julia Roberts as ex-government agents who left the world of intelligence for the more cutthroat world of brand secrets and billion-dollar product launches. It’s got charm and it’s working overtime to convince you it’s smarter than your average heist flick.

Roberts plays Claire, a former CIA officer now embedded in the private sector. Owen plays Ray, an ex-MI6 agent with a smirk and a grudge. They reunite after years apart, planning to scam two rival corporations locked in a high-stakes battle to release the next big thing. There’s history between them, mistrust and a lot of playful lying. And naturally, they fall back into something that looks a little like love and a lot like a setup.

The story zigzags between flashbacks, fake-outs, and boardroom backstabbing. It’s got the glossy confidence of Ocean’s Eleven and the romantic tension of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, though it never quite reaches the high notes of either. Still, the leads carry it with plenty of heat and wit. If you’re into watching beautiful people play mind games in tailored suits, Duplicity delivers just enough to keep you entertained.

It might not stick with you for long, but it’s an enjoyable ride while it lasts.
