Bored to Death ran from 2009 to 2011.~|~|qQnBiEqGtO

Thank God for the fall TV season. Just as we were all preparing for the noose from having to endure a summer of Wipeout, VH1’s Daisy of Love, and other MTV reality slop TV I managed to miss, premium television has come through with yet another fantastic series.

Enter HBO’s newest comedy half-hour series, Bored to Death. Written for the screen by Jonathan Ames (author of several funny novels you should have read already), the series tells the semi-autobiographical story of a writer named Jonathan Ames, who fresh off a break up, decides to use Craigslist.org as a comedic plot device to cure himself of writer’s block and a broken heart.

With a minor addiction to weed and white wine, Jonathan Ames stumbles into one ridiculous misadventure after another. Jason Schwartzman makes a seamless transition from the big screen, bolstered by a pitch-perfect supporting cast.

Zach Galifianakis shines as Ray, Jonathan’s eccentric comic book-illustrating best friend, armed with endless quirks and quotable one-liners. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re living in the year of Galifianakis and Bored to Death only adds to his streak.

Ted Danson is another standout, playing Ames’s magazine editor, a charmingly debauched figure with a fondness for weed and Viagra. At this point, it’s clear: the execs at premium cable know exactly what they’re doing.
