Team Edward, it’s time to put your winter coats away and break out the sunscreen cuz sources say our boy Robert Pattinson may be heading to the deserts of Arrakis for a villainous role in Dune: Messiah, the highly anticipated third and final installment in the series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, no deal is on the table just yet, but Pattinson’s schedule is already jam-packed. He’s set to return as Gotham’s most emo superhero in Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel and is currently in Italy filming his role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey.
Like Nolan, every actor in Hollywood wants to work on a Denis Villeneuve joint. Both Dune and Dune: Part Two boasted stacked casts, including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin. The first film made waves with a hybrid streaming/theatrical release during the pandemic, pulling in $410M worldwide. The sequel? A massive $714.6M and counting.
If Messiah follows the book, the story picks up 12 years after Paul Atreides takes the throne. He’s emperor now, married to Princess Irulan but still deeply tied to Chani. With political intrigue and spiritual crisis looming, the next chapter is set to get even darker, and Pattinson’s potential villain would play a key part in that.
Dune: Messiah is slated to start filming this summer and hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Villeneuve has said this will be his last Dune film before moving on to other stories.
